Planet Possible Smartwatch Data Tracker
Fish Bladder Games
The Background:
Fish Bladder Games’ flagship game, “Planet Possible”, is an iOS mobile game that requires players to take their hands off of their devices, take a step back, and use their bodies as the remote control. Focusing on children aged 7 - 12, Planet Possible uses the front-facing camera of tablets and mobile devices to track body movement, forcing kids to get up and move their body to play. Comparable to gameplay on the Wii, Xbox Kinect, and PlayStation Move; running in place, stepping left, stepping right, jumping, ducking, and ultimately collecting as many coins as possible, have all contributed to children across the globe burning extra calories, staying in shape, and competing with friends through the mobile game, Planet Possible.
Planet Possible is an interactive movement game for children, with recently designed Data Portals that give specific data and insights into player’s statistics both in game (distance travelled, coins collected, jumps made, etc.) and in real life (time played, calories burned, heart rate range, etc.).
The children’s global smartwatch industry was valued over $1.125 billion in 2020 and is projected to exceed $4.268 billion by 2030. - Allied Market Research: Kids Smartwatch Market Size, Competitive Landscape and Trend Analysis Report

Impact of Designs
Knowing the effects of certain design elements informs good design decisions.
Layout: Clean, minimalistic layouts improve usability and user satisfaction.
Color Palette: Colors evoke emotions and affect user engagement. Example: blues can convey trust and security, whereas reds may be used as call-to-action buttons or alerts due to visibility and association with action.
Iconography: Simple, recognizable, and consistent icons are a must, as they play a crucial role in visual communication within the app, helping users to navigate and understand functions without relying on text.
Navigation: Navigation must be intuitive. Research shows that users prefer familiar navigation styles, such as tab bars in mobile apps or hamburger menus for more complex navigation.

Accessibility Standards
Ensuring usability for everyone, including people with disabilities.
General Principles and Best Practices
Interactive Elements: Must be easy to identify and provide clear and consistent navigation options. Call to action elements must have clearly associated labels and provide easily identifiable feedback.
Contrast and Color: There must be sufficient color contrast between foreground and background to ensure text and elements can easily be read. Additional indicators for essential elements, other than color alone should be used to convey information.
Responsive Design: Designs should be adapted for different viewport sizes, considering how content may be displayed on various devices, including web browser, tablet, mobile, and smartwatch.
Alternative Text and Media: Alternatives for images and media in designs will accommodate users who rely on assistive technologies to interpret visual information.
Market Demands
The market demands for the interface of a smartwatch exercise app typically revolve around several key factors:
1) User-Friendly Design: The interface should be intuitive and easy to navigate, even during gameplay/workouts. Users want to access features quickly and without unnecessary steps.
2) Clear Display: Given the limited screen size of smartwatches, the interface should prioritize clear and concise information display. This includes easily readable text, identifiable icons, and meaningful graphics.
3) Customization Options: Users appreciate the ability to personalize their experience. Customizable features such as workout goals, display preferences, and notifications allow users to tailor the app to their specific needs and preferences.
4) Integration with Health Data: Seamless integration with health data such as heart rate, step count, and calories burned enhances the app's utility. Users want to track their progress effortlessly and see how their workouts contribute to their overall health and fitness goals.
5) Real-Time Feedback: Providing real-time feedback during gameplay/workouts, such as heart rate zones, pace, distance, and form tips, can help users stay motivated and make adjustments as needed.
6) Compatibility and Connectivity: The app should be compatible with a variety of smartwatches and easily connect to other devices or platforms, such as smartphones or fitness trackers, to synchronize data and provide a seamless user experience.
7) Battery Efficiency: Smartwatch users expect apps to be optimized for battery efficiency to ensure that the app doesn't drain the device's battery too quickly, especially during long workouts and gameplay sessions.
8) Gamification and Social Features: Integrating gamification elements like challenges, achievements, and leaderboards, as well as social features such as sharing achievements and competing with friends, can enhance user engagement and motivation.
9) Accessibility Features: Considerations for accessibility, such as adjustable text size, voice commands, and compatibility with screen readers, ensure that the app is inclusive and usable by a wide range of individuals.
By addressing these market demands, we can design a smartwatch compatible interface that effectively meets the needs and expectations of Planet Possible users, ultimately leading to greater adoption and satisfaction.
